Treasure @ Nature (Code: WSA01)
Introduction:
After the explanations from our staffs, participants are divided into groups and they need to find out the hidden objects according to the hints.
Objectives:

  1. To introduce the concept of camouflage
  2. To introduce the unique features of different plants and animals
  3. To train the participants’ observation skills, thinking and judgment

Who am I? – FINDING MY HOME (Code: WSA02)
Introduction:
Participants will be assigned to be a kind of animal but he/she will not know what is it. He/she can only ask questions according to the information provided by our staffs to find out what he/she is.
Objectives:

  1. To understand the preferences on food/ habitat and adaptation features of animals
  2. To introduce different animals species and their special features to participants
  3. To motivate participants’ interest in different animals

How to Match? – MATCHING ANIMALS AND THEIR HABITS (Code: WSA03)
Introduction:
After a short introduction, participants will know more about characteristic of animals and the causes and impacts of climate change. They will then have a matching game on these to strengthen their knowledge.
Objectives:

  1. To understand the causes and the impacts of climate change
  2. To motivate interest in different animals

Handcrafts

FUN COLOURING (Code: WSB01)
Introduction:
After a short introduction, participants will know more about characteristic of animals. They will then have a colour-filling and paper craft about animals so as to strengthen their knowledge.
Objectives:

  1. To promote the understanding of the animal, such as its body structure and features
  2. To enhance the creativity of participants and ability of problem solving

KNOWING WILD ANIMAL(I) – Making a Bird from recyclables (Code: WSB02)
Introduction:
Participants will be provided a simple “lecture” about birds and participants will have a chance to make their own birds by using recyclables.
Objectives:

  1. To learn how to make a toy bird from recyclables
  2. To understand features of different birds

Target Group: Age 6 or above   Duration: around 2.5 hours (including the briefing time)
Materials: Please prepare a capsule toy for this workshop
Remarks: This activity can be provided as outreach activity

DIY PEN-STAB WITH LEAVE (Code: WSB03)
Introduction:
Participants will be provided a simple “lecture” about plants and participants will have a chance to make a pen-stab by using recyclables and plants’ fallen parts which can be found in our garden.
Objectives:

  1. To introduce the importance of leaves and the mechanism of plants
  2. To initiate participants’ interest on leaves
  3. To enhance participants’ creativity and their sense of environmental protection and recycling

Target Group: Age 6 or above   Duration: around 2 hours (including the briefing time)
Materials: Please bring 2-3 toilet paper roll for each participants
Remarks: This activity is not provided as outreach activity

KNOWING WILD ANIMALS(II) – Twist the snake! (Code: WSB04)
Introduction:
Our staff will provide a simple “lecture” on snakes and participants will have a chance to make their own snake by using recyclables.
Objectives:

  1. To introduce characteristics of snakes and snakes in Hong Kong
  2. To initiate their interest of wild animals
  3. To enhance the creativity and sense of environmental protection and recycling

Target Group: Age 10 or above   Duration: around 2.5 hours (including the briefing time)
Materials: Please bring 4-5 toilet paper roll for each participants
Remarks: This activity can be provided as outreach activity

Let’s make a recycled-paper ! (Code: WSB05)
Introduction:
Participants will have a chance to produce a piece of recycling paper themselves. They will also learn the relationship between paper and ourselves.
Objectives:

  1. To promote the importance of forests
  2. To introduce the relationship between forests and ourselves
  3. To enhance the sense of environmental protection and recycling

Target Group: Age 4 or above   Duration: around 1.5 hours
Materials: Please bring 2-3 pieces of newspaper and 1 piece of used A4 paper for each participant
Remarks: This activity can be provided as outreach activity

KNOWING WILD ANIMALS (III) - BOUNCING PORCUPINE (Code: WSB06)
Introduction:
Participants will be provided a simple “lecture” about mammals and participants will have a chance to make their own porcupine coin saving box by using recyclables.
Objectives:

  1. To learn how to make a porcupine coin saving box from recyclables
  2. To familiar with mammals of Hong Kong

Target Group: Age 6 or above   Duration: around 2 hours (including the briefing time)
Materials: Please prepare a plastic bottle for this workshop

GLASS REUSE AND RECYCLE (CODE: WSB07)
Introduction:
Our staff will introduce the present methods and challenges of glass wastes treatment in Hong Kong. Related campaigns and policies will also be introduced. Participants will decorate their own glass wastes and make them become useful again.
Objectives:

  1. To learn about how the glass wastes are treated in Hong Kong
  2. To enhance participants’ creativity and their sense of environmental protection and recycling

Target Group: Age 15 or above   Duration: around 2 hours (including the briefing time)
Materials: Please prepare a piece of glass waste (e.g. Jam jar, Glass bottles; Ground glass is not suitable) and a piece of cloth (for decoration use) for this workshop
Remarks: This activity can be provided as an outreach activity

MAKING A CARTON WALLET (CODE: WSB08)
Introduction:
Through a presentation on the environmental impacts and current treatment of wasted beverage cartons, the workshop aims to enhance participants’ environmental protection consciousness on daily consumption. Participants can turn a wasted carton into a useful small wallet. This workshop allows everyone to have some fun out of reducing waste generation and serves as interactive parenting activity.
Objectives:

  1. To learn about current treatment of wasted beverage cartons
  2. To enhance participants’ sense of environmental protection and make use of recyclables

Target Group: Age 10 or above   Duration: around 2 hours (including the briefing time)
Materials: Please prepare an empty beverage carton (about 1 Litre in volume, with screw cap)

Festive Workshop (CODE: WSB09)
Introduction:
This handicraft workshop introduces creative and environmental-friendly ways to celebrate festivals. An educational briefing is included in the workshop to highlight Hong Kong people’s wastage during festivals and its impacts to the environment. Themes will be changed according to festivals. The current theme is “Mother’s and Father’s Days” where you could use unwanted cereal boxes to make leaf imprinted mail boxes or organizers for your parents! It is a practical and environmentally-friendly gift!
Objectives:

  1. To raise participant’s awareness to waste generation during festivals
  2. To enhance participants’ sense of environmental protection and make use of recyclables

Target Group: Age 4 or above   Duration: around 2 hours (including briefing)
Materials: Please prepare 1 old cereal box for each participant (For outreach service: Please also prepare dry leaves)
