Sianna Yiu graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007 with a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Geography and Resource Management. During her second year of study at the university, she served in the editing committee of Greenpost, a student association of the Chinese University of Hong Kong that promotes environmental protection. She completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programme in 2008, majoring in secondary school Geography education.

Sianna has always been fascinated by the beauty of the natural scenery and amazed at how different kinds of living things coexist on the Earth. She believes that people need to live in harmony with each other and with nature. After joining The Kadoorie Institute in 2009, she has been involved in a number of research and consultancy projects on public engagement, sustainable development and environmental education. She is also currently a member of Oxfam, WWF and Greenpeace.
